Found some really cool bike art through my friend Taylor’s Blog. Artist Jayme McGown of Roadside Projects makes whimsical 3D paper art. The first image below reminds me of Amsterdam even though the girl is in a sundress and there are mountains in the background.

Amsterdam might be the bike city capital of the world but I must say Berlin ain’t doing so bad either. The majority of my time spent in Berlin was on two wheels and I found it to be just as easy as Amsterdam. I did find the bikers in Berlin to be a little more urban and less casual. Most bikes seemed to have gears and two baskets, therefore not much doubling up on on a single bike. It seems like having a back basket in Amsterdam is almost offensive since riders are always in the situation of giving our bikeless buddies a ride.

She’s not on a bike but is surrounded by them. This is my best friend Paige who visited Amsterdam a while back. I love this photograph of her. You can’t see any buildings or landscapes but you can easily figure out she’s in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam has often been titled the Bike Capital of the World with 40% of all traffic movements by bicycle. The ubiquity of bicycles lined up against every building and the number of cyclists on the road is probably the most unique element of this city. The bicycle is a part of the Dutch identity and Amsterdam truly embraces bike culture. When I first moved here, I was so amazed by all the different types of cyclists riding in this town. It is fascinating seeing whole families being carried on one bike or people moving their furniture on the back of their bikes. The bicycle is by far my favorite part of living in Amsterdam.
So, inspired by this bike culture along with the coolest blog Copenhagen Cycle Chic, I have decided to post weekly photos of the interesting bikers in this city. This first picture was taken when I first moved to Amsterdam. She is out of focus but this is a little girl riding alone with her teddy bear in Vondelpark. I can’t handle the cuteness of this city sometimes.
