I recently visited a cool interior design shop that’s tucked away in the residential area of the Baarsjes called Store Without A Home. Its a fun semi permanent pop-up shop that is also partly a design gallery. Young designers are able to showcase their work as well as established international labels. I particularly love the drawing below by Manja van der Storm and all the fun fabrics by Marimekko. The store is located on Cabotstraat 1.
I was sitting in a cozy bar around the corner when this happened and missed the whole thing but during the Queen Beatrix’s speech on Tuesday for National Remembrance Day ceremony a 39-year-old crazy man put his arms above his head and started mumbling and screaming which sent thousands of people including the Dutch royal family fleeing for safety. Over 50 people were injured. Check out the videos below to see the chaos!
The Dutch are known for having incredible apple pie and I am convinced that I have found the best apple pie in Amsterdam. Cafe Winkel serves real Dutch appeltaart everyday of the week in the Jordaan neighborhood. It is so popular that there is usually a line out the door on the weekends all year round. I have been in Amsterdam for only 2 months now and I have probably been there about 8 times. It is that scrumptious. Make sure to get slagroom (whipped cream) and a coffee or mint tea with it. I haven’t found an official website but they are located on Noordermarkt 43.
