Sun. Free Festival. Eastside. Yessssss.
An art festival about Japan in Amsterdam?! The Camera Japan Festival is on it’s fifth year of celebrating everything Japanese. There will be feature films, dance, anime, food, music, documentaries, and exhibitions! It will be held from October 7-13 at the Melkweg and Kriterion.
Here’s what I’m excited about:
Lullatone, the amazing pajama pop band will perform a free show at the Kriterion, Friday October 8 at 21:00.
Feature Film: Noriben – The Recipe of Fortune, playing Saturday October 9 at 13:30 Kriterion.
Brunch & Movie! The feature film “Pool” or “Puru” will be screened alongside an oishii Japanese style brunch for only 10 euros! Sunday October 10 at 11:00, Kriterion.
Reminder that Broken Social Scene is playing at the Melkweg with Timber Timbre on May 18, 2010. They just released their new album Forgivness Rock Record and its sounds preeetttyyy nice. Tickets are only 12 euros! Doors open at 19.30, show starts at 20.30
A pretty cool two-day music festival in The Hague called Walk the Line is happening this weekend on Friday May 14 and Saturday May 15. Over 40 acts including AVI Buffalo, Bonobo, War Paint, Sleigh Bells will be performing in the city center in various squares, cafes, and clubs. I also love the festival’s web design. Tickets are 25 euros for a day pass and 40 euros for the whole event.
indie band Deerhunter (Atlanta, Georgia) and Bachelorette (New Zealand) will be performing at Club Trouw on May 11. Costs 15 euros. Doors open at 20.00, show starts at 21.00.
Hey yall, I made an Amsterdam playlist titled The Dam Jams for everyone to enjoy. There’s no theme, just random songs I really like listening to right now in Amsterdam. If you’re into Die Antwoord, Chaka Khan, or Bone Thug you might enjoy it!
Mediamatic and Spotify are hosting a weekend full of hacking music, software, and art. The event will be held at Mediamatic from April 24-25. Register for Music Hack Day here.
The main goal of Music Hack Days is to explore and build the next generation of music applications. It’s a full weekend of hacking in which participants will conceptualize, create and present their projects. Music, software, hardware, art, the web. Anything goes as long as it’s music related.
This is a shout out to my friend Taylor Browning, she loves Joanna Newsom and tickets to her show might be enough temptation to get her to come visit me in Amsterdam. Anyways, Joanna Newsom is coming to Amsterdam on May 30th at the Melkweg. Special guest Roy Harper will also be joining her. Get your tickets here.
Of course it’s already sold out but many of my friends have found it pretty easy to scalp tickets in this city soooo maybe you can snag some tickets for MGMT and Zombie Zombie, performing at the Melkweg March 28.
She & Him the cutsie duo Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward are performing at Melkweg on May 6. I <3 love their oldies sound. Get your tickets here.
